ABOUT METZ

image

Metz is located in the East of France close to Luxemburg, Germany and Belgium, in Lorraine, the native country of Robert Schuman the “Father of Europe”. Metz is a medieval city with three thousand years of history and a trading and banking tradition. You will be charmed with the historical heart of the old town, a mosaic of remains from the Roman period to the Renaissance, through the Merovingian, Carolingian and Middle ages. Its cathedral is famous, originating from the 13th century, and features a superb gothic architecture and stained glass windows dating from the 13th to 20th centuries, the latest from Marc Chagall. The cathedral is one of the tallest in France. In the heart of the historical centre and in front of the Town Hall, the cathedral is surrounded with the superb old Monastery «Récollets» now the European Institute of Ecology, the new protestant church Temple neuf, the Museum of arts and history La Cour d’Or or “Golden Court”, a jewel in Metz. You will appreciate walking in the green city of Metz, along the Moselle river, and in the picturesque small island Ile du Saulcy where the Symposium will be held.

Climate

The symposium is held during the summer season. The climate is typically temperate, with temperatures at the time of the symposium typically between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. Rain can be expected at times.
